THE ULYSSES CLUB

Ulysses Taranaki is a dynamic Club of motorcycle enthusiasts who also like to socialise.

We want you to know that we value your membership and to let you know what you can look forward to as an active Member. As we are one of the largest Motor Bike Clubs in Australasia, there is plenty for you to enjoy! You will see how we put your subscription to good use!
  • Not many members realise that the Ulysses Club is recognised World-Wide!
  • We are a happy mix of people who have an interest in motor bikes and enjoy social events and get-togethers. Not everyone rides and they enjoy coming along to our socials.
  • You will enjoy fellowship with mix of motorcyclists who are experienced, returning to riding or just starting out and who are a mix of ages and genders. There is no limit on style of bikes! There’s always something ‘motorbike’ to talk about.
  • Our National Committee works for the betterment of the whole Club. While these roles are all voluntary, we cover costs and equipment involved in fulfilling their roles which is critical to the Club’s ongoing success.
  • Our branch structure is also all voluntary and your Branch Coordinator / Branch President and committee all work very hard to ensure that you enjoy your membership at branch level.
  • We publish our very own ‘Ulyssian’ magazine, quarterly, in hard copy and digital copy. This is packed full of news, interesting articles, contact information, upcoming Rallies and a Coffee Break page to test your brain! Our Advertising Manager ensures that some of the production costs are covered by the Advertisers.
  • Once a year, we hold the National Bike Raffle. The tickets are sold by the Branch Coordinators. The winner (member or not), can select their bike from an extensive list of bikes! This is a major undertaking and takes lots of volunteered time, as well as some administration costs.
  • We have a national communication network which includes emails, newsletters, a Website and social media. We are always keeping in touch and we communicate freely with each other. You do start to feel like ‘one of the family’ after a while!
  • We do National PR through the Website, we have a promotional video, we have Club Banners, we advertise on social media, and advertise in some bike magazines. We have other PR materials available to advertise our club.
  • We have Ulysses Club branded gear which is available through the National Quartermaster or on the Website. Go and have a look around and ‘get da gear’!
  • We pay a part time Contract Administrator who supports the Club nationally from a financial and administration perspective. If you have any questions or queries, please contact administration@ulysses.org.nz. We provide the Administrator with the equipment required to do this role and we use Xero as our accounting package.
  • We all enjoy discounts … and we offer our members discounts on ferry travel, accommodation, auto stores, VTNZ, clothing ranges and many other outlets.
  • Rider training and mentoring is really important to us, and we investigate and fund some rider training initiatives and safety equipment for our members!
  • Yearly, we hold a National Rally and AGM, alternating the venue between North and South Island. We generally get a really good turnout. They are heaps of fun and a great opportunity to enjoy ‘fellowship’ with other branches. So please come along! Our Club, supports each branch when / if needed to cover costs associated with these annual meetings.
  • In recognising long service and dedication, we purchase Odyssey and Life Membership badges for individuals which we present to them at National AGMs.
  • In order to support and strengthen the Club network, the Branch Coordinators / Branch President and NatCom travel to a central venue and meet every 2nd year. Accommodation and meals are covered by NatCom.
  • We compile Welcome! packs for new members (like you) where we provide membership cards and name badges at no extra cost … and perhaps another little free gift too.
  • We also ensure our rules, policies, procedures and constitution are all up to date.

Well, that’s a lot of information about what you can look forward to!

As you probably know, once you join a group, you need to keep going and proactively join in, so that you get to know people better. Recent research shows that it takes about 50 hours of socialising to go from acquaintance to casual friend, an additional 40 hours to become a ‘real’ friend and a total of 200 hours to become a close friend. So, friendships don’t form over-night. Length of membership varies with each person in the Club. So, please go along to as many events as you can to get those ‘friend’ hours up.

Above all, we have plenty of fun and enjoy our time spent together with likeminded people.
Again, Welcome to Ulysses! We are so glad that you have joined us. We encourage you to get involved, make friends and join in the events that your Branch organise.

More about our club ...

The Ulysses Club of NZ Inc. for older motorcyclists – one of the largest organisations of its kind in New Zealand – is now a familiar part of this country’s riding scene. All of our branches hold regular rides and social get togethers, for more information on events in your region go to the Branches page and either click on the link to your local branch website, or email or telephone the branch contact for more information. Usually they will be able to provide you with a runs list so you can go along.

You will find we are a friendly bunch, and while we are a club for motorcyclists, our emphasis is more on the socialising side, and that’s why we welcome spouses and partners to actively take part in our events.
